Mothers’ Day is celebrated in Australia each year on the second Sunday in May. This year it falls on Sunday, 14 May.
At The Flower Farm we have a wide range of beautiful blooms to celebrate the much-loved mother, mother figure or special woman in your life. Whether you can be with your Mum this Mothers’ Day or not, you can lift her spirits and make her smile with a bouquet of fresh, locally grown flowers.
And to help you choose the best for Mum this year, here are our five favourite Mothers’ Day flowers.
Our 5 Favourite Mother’s Day Flowers
1. Carnations, our signature favourite for Mothers’ Day flowers
Carnations are a signature flower for us at The Flower Farm, and the true ‘heroine flower’ of Mothers’ Day. The origins of Mothers’ Day are linked to white carnations. But a mother’s love is now symbolised by pink and red carnations (with white carnations honouring mothers who have passed away).
And as a bonus, fresh-cut carnations will be at their best vase-life for a long seven to 14 days when well cared for. This will guarantee a smile from your Mum, well after Mothers’ Day has passed.

2. Flowers for new mothers
If it’s the first Mothers’ Day for a new Mum in your life, we have some lovely bouquets. These are fantastic to both welcome the new baby and celebrate this first special Mothers’ Day.
Pink carnations are symbolic of a mother’s love, so are a lovely (and abundantly blooming!) choice. The birth month flowers for babies born in May are lily of the valley (symbolising purity and sweetness) and hawthorn (symbolising protecting and enduring love).
We deliver flowers to the maternity wards at our local Redlands Public and Redlands Mater Private, as well as to all Brisbane hospitals. As hospital rooms may become a little ‘florally abundant’, we think a white arrangement can be a lovely, peaceful choice for a new Mum.

3. Flowers to make Mum smile
Gerberas are traditionally associated with happiness, and have also been linked to childlike joy and gratefulness. A bouquet of cheery, ‘smiling’ gerberas is bound to bring a smile to the face of the Mum in your life. And they’re a lovely way to say ‘thanks, Mum!’
Choose from our range of wonderfully coloured gerberas in brights, pastels or pink. They have a long vase-life, so can continue to brighten your loved one’s day for days to come.

4. Seasonal bouquets
Chrysanthemums are blooming abundantly in Brisbane in May, making them a perfect seasonal bouquet to send to your own ‘chrysanthe-MUM’. They symbolise happiness, longevity and optimism, wonderful sentiments to bundle up in a bouquet for the much-loved Mum in your life.

5. Roses, to say ‘I love you’
Roses are the undisputed queen of the flower world, when it comes to expressing love, affection and appreciation. If the mother in your life is your wife or romantic partner, get in touch with us for a bespoke bouquet of red or pink roses for Mothers’ Day flowers.
No matter the colour of rose, they are the perfect way to say fragrantly and beautifully, ‘I love you’ this Mothers’ Day.
